1950’s Rare Disney Metlox Ceramic Pink Chamber Potty – Evan K. Shaw
Probably some of the rarest examples of Disney ceramics were the pink and blue potties Metlox made for Walt Disney in the 1950’s. In a gesture of congratulations to staff members and friends who had new babies, Walt Disney would present the parents with the ceramic potty filled with flowering baby sweat peas. Disney commissioned his artists to design various characters in their night clothes sleepily slumping off to bed.
The bas-relief pieces were fired, decorated and glazed at Metlox, while a studio staff artist would paint the name of the child on the pot’s decorative ceramic ribbon. Because the name was painted over the glaze, the dry unprotected paint could easily be wiped away or chip off the glaze. Most examples found are without personalization.
The ceramic chamber pots were produced in previously said lots of 500 and two slightly different mold versions but it is unclear how many lots were actually made.
The item is in good condition no chips or nicks, but it has some heavy crazing and a pencil size rust spot as you can see in the pictures. Please make sure to look ad the photo’s as they are part of the description and condition of the item.
Chamber Potty measures 5 inches in rim diameter, 7 inches from handle tip to rim edge and is 4 1/2 inches tall.
